Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic vessels run throughout the body to supply cells with nutrients and remove metabolic waste products. For these tasks to be fulfilled, it is essential that lymph flows and the circulatory system remains intact.

During the treatment, lymphatic vessels are stimulated through specific pumping and shifting techniques. Care is taken to follow the direction of flow (toward the lymph nodes). In cases of damaged lymphatic vessels, such as after a tumor disease, the therapist drains the lymph into neighboring drainage areas, helping the body to learn how to redistribute the lymph flow.
